Paid work provides more than financial resources - it also provides a sense of identity, purpose, social contacts and opportunities for personal growth.[1] For adults supporting a family, unemployment, especially if it is long-term, may result in financial hardship and emotional distress. A lack of employment can also lead to the same hardship and distress for youth trying to enter the workforce for the first time.
